Interviews such as “They Won’t Take Me Alive”

Interviews such as “They Won’t Take Me Alive” and “Confessions of a Torturer” are primary sources—not history with its “five c’s” of change over time, causality, context, complexity, and contingency. But our goal is to incorporate interviews, or oral histories, into our analysis.
For this assignment, use the interviews from Claribel Alegría’s “They Won’t Take Me Alive” and Nancy Guzmán’s interview of Osvaldo Romo in “Confessions of a Torturer” to compare the perspectives of guerillas and security forces. Where did their values overlap? Where did they diverge? Your analysis should be 300-400 words, and can draw on Latin American Voices and Born in Blood & Fire for background and context.
